Carnival Games Coming to the Nintendo DS

Yeah Baby! There's a carnival happening in my pants!

2K Play's ultra-popular mini-game compilation is coming to the Nintendo DS. Originally released on the Nintendo Wii, Carnival Games features a set of games you expect to find in, well, a carnival (Chuck E. Cheese, too).

With popular mini-games such as Alley Ball and Dunk Tank, Carnival Games managed to ship more than one million copies on the Nintendo Wii. Quite an accomplishment by 2K Play considering that it was basically a no name third-party game when it came out.

"We work hand-in-hand with Nintendo on the design of our Carnival Games titles to make sure they deliver the best-possible gaming experience for their consoles," said Harley Howe and Patrick Wilkinson, studio heads of 2K Play's Cat Daddy Games. "These new titles in our growing Carnival Games franchise are fun, feature true-to-life physics, and deliver on the promise of the original. You can almost smell the candy floss."

Carnival Games will be reworked to accommodate for the Nintendo DS. The motion controls have been replaced by touch screen and microphone inputs. Two new mini-games will also be added: RC Raceway and Clown Hammer. I doubt Carnival Games can sell without the immersive motion controls; however, it did managed to sell unexpectedly well on the Wii.

Carnival Games is expected to ship on the Nintendo DS during the summer. A Wii only follow-up, Carnival Games: Mini-Golf will be released at the end of the year.

Nintendo 64 system: $25.95

So when I was a little kid, my family was always a "generation" behind the times in terms of video games. When everyone else had Nintendo, my brother and I had Atari 2600. When they got Super Nintendo, we had regular Nintendo. And guess what: I didn't care. I was 7 years old!

For those parents out there who are feeling pressure to buy their kids Nintendo Wii's or Playstations 3's, here's my rule of thumb: When your kids are mature enough to need the latest, greatest, coolest, video game system, they have hit the age where they are also cool enough to pay for it themselves ... with their own money.

Buying a 5-year old a $300 video game system is stupid. Do you really think he'll enjoy it any more than this $25.95 Nintendo 64 system, available used on Amazon? Of course not! Nintendo 64 was fun 10 years ago and it's fun now, gosh darnet. These days you can buy a lot of N64 games for a little more than 2 dollars apiece, and young kids have short attention spans so a wide variety is key.

Sony Pictures Is Close to Takeover of 2wayTraffic, FT Reports

By Lenka Ponikelska

March 13 (Bloomberg) -- Sony Pictures Television International, which produces game shows like ``Jeopardy'' and ``Wheel of Fortune,'' is close to acquiring the Dutch group 2wayTraffic NV, the Financial Times reported, without saying where it got its information.

The Dutch company owns the ``Who Wants to Be a Millionaire'' format; the takeover bid is expected to be higher than the closing price on London's AIM exchange yesterday, which valued 2wayTraffic at 140 million pounds ($283 million), the newspaper said.

Both companies declined to comment, the FT said.

Sony Blog Issues More MotorStorm 2 Info

Yesterday, the very first MotorStorm 2 trailer dropped, and now, the official PlayStation blog has revealed more information on the upcoming sequel.

We'll start you off with the most important aspect of the new details, which is where they mentioned an estimated release window:

"You may have wondered what that counter was ticking down to on top of Threespeech, or read bits of information on sites like on Eurogamer, or recently dropped by IGN for the video reveal - but here’s the news in its entirety: MotorStorm 2 is coming this fall."

As expected, the sequel will move away from the desert environment, and players will find themselves racing through a wide variety of locales, from a "lush Pacific island" to "thick swamps, dense jungle, towering peaks and steaming volcanoes." Furthermore, our selection of vehicles will expand to include cars, motorcycles, race trucks, buggies, "mudpluggers," Big Rigs, and the previously rumored Monster Truck class (now on display in that new video trailer). In terms of additional features, Sony has revealed the following- "16 new multi-route tracks, 16 players can race head-to-head online, and a hugely requested feature hits MotorStorm: 4-player split-screen mode."

Well damn, that sounds good to us! The fact that it should be arriving in 2008 is another major plus, because MotorStorm 2 has the potential to be a "AAA" title for this holiday season. We'll continue to keep you updated on any new developments concerning this big-name sequel.
