**ENERGY SHARES CLIMB AFTER OIL RISES ON POSSIBLE OPEC CUTS**

Oil and gas field developer Inpex Inc and other energy-related shares climbed after oil jumped on Thursday, buoyed by prospects of a possible OPEC production cut later this month and a surge on Wall Street.

U.S. crude settled up $2.08 at $58.24 a barrel on Thursday after earlier dropping to $54.67, its weakest since Jan. 30, 2007. It further extended gains by more than $1 after the settlement and was edging up again on Friday.

Inpex surged 7.7 percent to 491,000 yen, while major oil distributor Showa Shell Sekiyu climbed 5.8 percent to 764 yen.
