ASUS' 17-inch G70 gaming laptop on sale now in UK

This certainly won't be the first time ASUS has shipped an in-demand
item elsewhere in the world while USers ponder the thought of
importing, but apparently the outfit's potent G70
is now on sale in the UK. For those who missed it, this monstrosity
features a 17-inch WUXGA / WXGA+ panel, an optional Core 2 Extreme
processor, twin GeForce 8700M GT graphics cards, 1GB of RAM, an
optional Blu-ray writer, gigabit Ethernet, Bluetooth / WiFi and oodles
of LED accents. Word on the street has it going for around £1,999
($3,948) well equipped, but those blokes across the pond aren't too
worried about a US release date.

Garmin nuvifone May Be Made by Asus

Garmin's nuvifone, its first navigation device that will also act as mobile phone, will reportedly be manufactured by Asus.

This will be a change of policy, Garmin's director of OEM and mobile marketing, Roger Jollis told DigiTimes. His company had never before outsourced a product.

However,
as this will be Garmin's first ever phone, it had to turn to an outside
company for help designing and making this device.

Jollis did not reveal the name of the company that will be so integral to the nuvifone, but DigiTimes' sources say it is Asus.

An Overview of the nuvifone

The
nuvifone will be Garmin's first GSM featurephone designed to take
advantage of its GPS knowledge. It will feature a large touchscreen,
GPS receiver, and built-in maps.

It will be the replacement
for this company's line of GPS-enabled Palm OS and Pocket PC handhelds.
Because it will offer a constant 3G connection to the Internet, this
device will offer features not available in this company's earlier
models, such as real-time traffic and fuel prices.

This will be
more than just a navigation device. It will have a web browser,
messaging application, multimedia options, and a camera.

Pricing and Availability

Garmin is now expected to release the nuvifone in the fourth quarter of this year, a bit after earlier expectations.

According
to a survey sent out by the company, this device may cost $500 with a
two year contract on AT&T. A $19.99 a month unlimited data
option could be a part of the plan.

Additional information about this device is available at www.garmin.com/nuvifone.

Reminder - New Nintendo Releases on 6/22

Nintendo Wii owners, here is your reminder that this coming Sunday, 6/22, will see the release of Rock Band.  As has been noted before, the Wii version is a basic port of the previously released PS2 offering, with the addition of 5 of the DLC tracks currently available to 360 & PS3 owners.

While this version may be pretty bare bones compared to the more robust 360/PS3 versions, if the Wii is the only console you own, it’s still a worthy purchase for solo/local multiplayer fun.  And remember that there will be future “track pack” expansion discs with all new tracks available starting this July!  If nothing else, almost everything on the Wii sells like crack, so better to get to the stores early Sunday morning (if not overnight Saturday) to ensure you get your copy.

And while you’re there, don’t forget that Guitar Hero: On Tour for the Nintendo DS will also be available starting this Sunday, including both the stand alone game, for current DS owners, and the bundle pack including both the game and the exclusive silver/gray Guitar Hero themed DS system for those who will be jumping into the DS world for the first time.

We’ll do our best to have reviews up as soon as possible, though admittedly, we will need some help with Rock Band on the Wii, so please offer comments if you’ve played it!  (I think most of us have it on the 360 already)  And we could always use some friendly donations toward getting our copies of GH: On Tour sooner.  [Author's note - Sorry guys, as much as I was saving cash to get it on release day, Metal Gear Solid 4 changed that real quick!]

On top of all that, don’t forget that we’re less than 2 weeks away from the release of Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, which I’m sure we’ll have a review of PDQ.  Whatever happened to the summer game drought?

Twilight Hack returns to knock out Wii Menu 3.3

Nintendo talks a big talk, but has never invested heavily in actually protecting its systems from those nefarious homebrew junkies. While the Wii Menu 3.3 did slightly break the Twilight Hack, it didn't even bust up folks who already had the hombrew channel installed, and its protections against further hacks were minimal. Now the HackMii folks are back with Twilight Hack v0.1beta1, which bests Wii Menu 3.3, along with some other improvements for homebrew usage. We can't tell if this is incompetence or benevolence on Nintendo's part, or perhaps these hackers are just that good, but either way we're lovin' it JT-style.
