3M Co. said Friday it has signed a licensing agreement giving Sony Corp. rights to use some of 3M's optical film technologies in Sony's LCD televisions.
Maplewood-based 3M didn't disclose terms of the deal. However, the
manufacturer said the agreement represents the companies' "increased
desire" to work together on LCD TV panel display products.
3M's (NYSE: MMM) optical film products are used to make displays
for electronic devices, such as cell phones, laptops and TVs. The
company's optical systems business unit has struggled recently, and 3M
recently moved the segment's headquarters from Minnesota to Hong Kong.
